CMC’s obsession with China grew from chance meetings with Chinese musicians in London, and CMC Director Mark Troop’s desire to create a Chinese fusion festival for London. With Chinese composer Kim Ho Ip CMC has developed a whole new concept in Chinese-Western collaboration – to be celebrated in CMC’s new Inspired By China Festival in London. For 2012 CMC is touring The Lure of the East with special new arrangements for Chinese and Western instruments. CMC’s regular erhu player, Wang Xiao, is recording a disc with Mark Troop, and the Company is exploring bossa-nova & tango styles to be unveiled in the autumn. Chinese dancers appear in CMC’s special Chopin production, and Mark Troop is currently involved in a Chinese Musical – Sacrifice – set for the West End in 2013.

CMC’s Latin American adventure started when CMC Directors Patricia Rozario and Mark Troop met the distinguished British Baritone, Frederick Fuller – a man who worked with the cream of Latin American composers in the 1950s. The result was a three part series for BBC Radio 3 – The Twilight of the Iguana – dedicated to Fuller and to bringing the neglected music and poetry of this great continent before the public. The Latin American Roadshow grew out of the Iguana project, leading to further explorations – Piazzolla’s songs and tango operita with La Mariposa Tango, Barcelona’s authentic tango band, to this year’s Tango Pasión touring programme.
